IQNA – The Iranian Cultural Center in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian country’s International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) are jointly organizing a forum about the role of women in society.

Habib Reza Arzani, Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Malaysia, noted that the ‘Global Muslim Women Forum 2024: Muslim Women’s Integral Role in Shaping Social Reform’ will be held at the conference hall of the IAIS in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, January 18.

A number of scholars and thinkers from Malaysia, Iran, Singapore, and South Africa will deliver speeches at the event, he noted.

The forum’s special guest is Dr Zahra Osati from Iran who heads the Goharshad International Foundation, he said, adding that she will deliver a speech on “Women’s Role in Modern Society”.

Other speakers include IAIS Chairman Dr Maszlee Malik, Anfal Saari, Halima Mohd Said, and Raihana Abdullah, and Syed Farid al-Atas, he stated.

According to Arzani, an exhibition of artworks by six Iranian and Malaysian women with the theme of woman will be mounted on the sidelines of the forum.

He expressed hope that the forum will be organized annually with the aim of discussing a wide range of views about the issues related to women.

According to the website of IAIS, the Global Muslim Women Forum 2024 seeks to provide a platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners from diverse disciplines to engage in constructive and critical dialogue and exchange ideas about Islamic perspectives on gender, including the debates of different feminist critiques; the tensions generated by the category of ‘woman’ in the debates between the traditional and the modern; the growing role of women in the interpretation of classical religious sources and growing intellectual enfranchisement and leadership of women.

This global forum aims to explore a spectrum of viewpoints on women's issues, in a hope of fostering a deeper understanding of the convergences and divergences amongst the most significant voices, it said.
