ISLAMABAD (IQNA) – Pakistani Christian and Muslim leaders attended a joint event to stress religious harmony in wake of the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.

Pakistani Muslim and Christian leaders held a joint press conference while holding copies of the Holy Quran, Torah, Zabur (Psalms), and Injeel (Gospel) on Sunday.

During the press conference at Jamia Manzoorul Islamia, Chairman of Pakistan Ulama Council and President of International Interfaith Harmony Council Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi along with Christian leaders, emphasised the importance of honoring and respecting all divine religions and their holy scriptures.

They strongly condemned any act of desecration against any divine book or prophets and messengers of Allah Almighty, stating that no individual, community, country, or organization should have the right to commit such acts.

The leaders expressed deep sadness and strong disapproval over the burning of the Torah, Zabur, and Injeel that followed the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden. They demanded that the European Union and the United Nations take immediate notice of these incidents and enact laws to respect the sanctities of all divine religions at the global level.

Leaders from various religious schools of thought and religions in Pakistan will submit a memorandum to the representatives of the United Nations and the European Union in Pakistan, calling for respect for the sanctities of all divine religions globally and the enactment of laws to support this cause.

The leaders applauded the resolution presented by Pakistan and Muslim countries in the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden. They announced their commitment to continue the struggle for this cause at all levels.

By coming together with the Torah, Zabur, Injeel, and the Holy Quran, Muslim and Christian leaders conveyed a message of religious harmony and tolerance to the world.

The religious leadership emphasized that Islam and all divine religions promote peace, security, moderation, and tolerance. The teachings of any religion do not endorse violence or extremism, and those who spread violence and extremism do not represent any religion.

With the support and coordination of the Church of Pakistan, Pakistan Ulama Council, and the International Interfaith Harmony Council, an extensive campaign will be launched across Pakistan to promote interfaith harmony.

The leaders also condemned the statement made by the Israeli delegate against Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
