TEHRAN (IQNA) – Persian-speaking Tajikistan is the guest of honor at the 34th Tehran International Book Fair, which opened on Wednesday at Imam Khomeini Mosalla.

The book fair, which has the slogan “The Future Is Readable”, will run for 11 days. More than 3000 foreign and Iranian publishers and over 200 major Iranian bookstores are displaying their latest books at the fair.

Several directors of other book fairs, such as the Doha International Book Fair, New Delhi World Book Fair and Muscat International Book Fair, were present at the opening ceremony. The culture ministers of Tajikistan and Venezuela also came to Tehran to visit the event.

Tajik Ambassador Zohidi Nizomiddin Shamsiddinzoda said in a press release that the book fair is the largest cultural event in the region. He said it aims to strengthen cultural ties in the region by showcasing the latest publications.

He added that Iran and Tajikistan share many cultural, historical and religious values, which create opportunities for more cultural interactions between the two countries.

He said that being the guest of honor at the book fair will help improve cultural relations with Iran. He said that his delegation brought a large collection of books to the fair and will participate in various programs organized by the organizers.

Some of these programs include review sessions, book launch events, a meeting on literature in Tajikistan and a poetry night with Iranian and Tajik poets. A new Tajik dictionary will also be introduced at the fair.

Last October, a big cultural delegation from Tajikistan led by Culture Minister Zulfiya Davlatzoda visited Tehran for a Tajik cultural festival at the Abbasabad Cultural Complex.

In November, Esmaeili led a cultural delegation from Iran to Tajikistan for an Iranian cultural festival in Dushanbe.
