TEHRAN (IQNA) – Bias and stubbornness are among characteristics that if present in individuals, can never understand the truth as they will blindly insist on their thoughts or behaviors.

One of the most fundamental principles of serving God Almighty is being humble before God and the truth; on the other side, any form of bias will and stubbornness will lead to distancing from prosperity.

Bias refers to having irrational dependence on something to a point where one would sacrifice truth for that. And stubbornness refers to insisting on something in a manner that is against wisdom and rationality. One of the most important reasons behind the deviation of nations throughout history has been these very features. Due to complete dependence on superstitious thoughts and insisting on them, these nations continued the path of their ancestors blindly, and accordingly, baseless superstitions transferred from one generation to the next, foiling the efforts of prophets for guiding the people.

One such instance is the story of Noah. Idolaters of the time were so stubborn that they would refrain from even listening to the words of this prophet: “Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud.” (Surah Nuh, verse 7)

Having bias and insisting on ideas and beliefs block the path between centers for thoughts and feelings; accordingly, neither ears nor eyes will be able to understand the truth. “The likeness of those who disbelieve is as the likeness of he who calls to that which does not hear, except a shout and a voice. Deaf, dumb, and blind, they do not understand.” (Surah Al Baqarah, verse 171)
