Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said that there should not be a radical approach to the exact sciences, which are affected by Modernism.

He made the remark at the opening ceremony of the second International Congress on Islamic Humanities, held in Tehran on Monday, November 18.

He regarded humanities as the main branch of science whose subject of study has free will and the ability to comprehend generalities.

Referring to the issue of acquiring Western sciences, he said that one should not view this radically and rebut all Western sciences.

“Islam has urged for acquiring knowledge even from the hypocrites, although the requirements for acquiring knowledge should be met,” he said.

The Majlis speaker stressed that by adding the word ‘Islamic’ to sciences one cannot claim to have created a single system that embraces all views but one should be after creation of a philosophical system that introduces the most truth.

Larijani further underlined the need for attention to comparative sciences as it would be very helpful in the development of sciences.

The second International Congress on Islamic Humanities is underway in Tehran with the participation of Iranian scholars as well as researchers and thinkers from Canada, Iraq, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Germany.

The congress has 10 commissions which discuss different themes such as philosophy and methodology of Islamic humanities, Islamic methodology, managing the development of humanities, and Islamic communications and sociology.
