Bangladesh Extends Coronavirus Restrictions
Bangladeshi Cabinet Division issued a notification Tuesday night detailing the restriction measures which will continue from July 1 to Aug. 3.
According to the notification, weekly holidays will also be under the purview of the restrictions.
It mentioned that none will be allowed to go outside home from 10:00 p.m. (local time) to 5:00 a.m. without urgent needs like works for burying bodies or last rituals, necessary purchasing or selling including medicines, medical services and movement towards workplaces.
Also the notification mentioned that wearing face masks, keeping social distancing and maintaining health guidelines must be followed by everyone outside of home, otherwise violators will face legal actions.
The notification which contains an 11-point directive said public transport, passenger vessels, trains and airplanes could operate their services in a limited scale with limited number of passengers in approved regions.
Shops and shopping malls must be closed before 7:00 p.m. while rallies, meetings, mass gathering and any functions will remain stopped during the restriction but people could offer their prayers at mosques and other places of worship maintaining health guidelines.
Apart from this, no educational institutions would be allowed to open, but online courses or distance learning courses will continue, Xinhua news agency reported.
Also ahead of the Eid-al-Adha, one of the biggest Muslim religious festivals, arrangement of cattle markets will be allowed but health guidelines must be followed strictly.
According to the notification, zoning system like red, yellow and green zones will be implemented gradually while city corporations will be responsible for the overall implementation of the region-based restriction activities in their respective areas of jurisdiction to contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
Since March 8, the virus has spread to nearly every Bangladeshi district and the total number rose to 145,483 with 1,847 deaths so far.
Earlier the Bangladeshi government declared a general holiday from March 26 and later extended the shutdown in phases till May 30 to quell the spread of the pandemic.
